David, not Goliath

Leaving my job and focusing on bitcoin.

I just wanted to explain a lack of activity on my part for the last few weeks and whats coming next for bitcoin for humans.

One of the major distractions has been tidying up and moving on from my previous “job” – my feelings on this can best be sumarised from this note I wrote in my journal the week I decided I no longer wanted to contribute to my “corporate overlords” 😉

It’s about David, not goliath.

Goliath, has everything; he’s big, bad and in charge.

He gets access to everything he needs, he’s got all the things; the money, the power and he knows how to use it. He takes what he wants.

and David… David is just a guy. Doing his thing and living his life trying to get by.

Really he’s not supposed to win, but in that story a simple tool made all the difference.

I think what I’ve realised is that I’ve spent the better part of 20 years helping Goliath and it doesn’t fit.

It doesn’t fit with anything I believe and the world I want my children to grow up in.

I was just on a treadmill from school and I never really had a chance to step off until the last few years as things started to click into place.

I think the next decade will see the transformation of our society and that technology will play a role in that journey.

I believe we will go one of two ways.

Either we build a free and open society that collaborates to face the major issues of the day or we could prove George Orwell right when he said…

“If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face—for ever”.

In a world in which we dismantle and disempower resilient, local business and entrepreneurs, preferring instead corrupt, global, debt fuelled mega corps and flashy monopoly unicorns – we show a preference for Orwells boot.

In a world in which we aggregate power to the few large central authorities, instead of seeking to solve our own problems and build local community – we show a preference for Orwells boot.

For me I now refuse to spend my energy helping Goliath, instead I will seek to arm the Davids to the best of my abilities.

I believe Bitcoin is a major part of that journey and the best way to empower the Davids which will be my initial focus.

I’m not a super star coder (although I plan to relearn), so I can’t just build a flashy wallet so I’ll take a different tack and build a business to augment the bits of bitcoin I think can help.

Given I’m in Austrlaia, the initial plan will be to build the best “human friendly” onboarding pipeline for new bitcoiners in Australia in line with our core values of freedom, community and education.

Step 1: Focus on education and community.

In line with this there a few changes to content.

  • You tube channel sharing explainer videos, answering questions and walking throuh current events.

  • The substack blog will move to a self hosted platform at bitcoinforhumans.com so I can expand on this with more content, courses and community tools.
The focus will be refined and more of structure put in place to focus on the positive human rights and future which can be built on bitcoin – look out for the next article coming from that address!

  • Events! We’ll be hosting our first monthly “Bitcoin at the Beach” – City Beach North Groyne, Thursday 10th March 6pm 🙂
The idea here is to provide a safe / fun space for people to come nadd learn about bitcoin and build a friendly communtiy.

Step 2: Non-custodial brokerage.

We’re in the early stages of building out a new bitcoin brokerage for Australians specifically tailored to dollar cost averaging simply, into long term storage.

Give our values this will be built out in a non-custodial model and with education and white glove services used to provide the support needed to get people from zero to holding their own bitcoin as quickly as possible.

Step 3: Services and Sponsorships

In this stage we will focuson expanding service offerings (consulting, white glove, inheritance planning etc) around bitcion to improve the user experience of holding bitcoin long term.

Given ideas are easy to copy (and I personally believe IP is bad for the world) the plan will not be to build new wallet software but instead contribute funds from the brokerage, into specifying out and sponsoring improvements in open source wallet platforms that can be used by everyone in the community.

We will instead monetise by building services businesses around these open source wallets.

For now if you want to help out please feel free to support and share the blog and you tube channel which will be the two major channels for me!

All the best and here’s to avoiding Orwell’s Boot.

Peace.
